The Connecticut Department of Housing and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority have signed financing agreements for nine developments in eight municipalities that are expected to create or preserve 627 housing units, including 359 affordable units for low- and moderate-income renters.
The projects include 72 units designated as permanent supportive housing. Developments are located in Avon, Bridgeport, Hamden, Montville, New London, Newtown, South Windsor and West Hartford.
State officials said the Department of Housing is providing more than $49 million in loans and grants, while CHFA is awarding low-income housing tax credits expected to generate about $85 million in private investment, along with $39 million in financing.
CHFA also finalized $7.375 million in financing for 231 units through the Build For CT program, which supports middle-income rental housing.
The agencies said the financing agreements mean the developments are ready to begin construction.
Projects receiving financing include:
- Homes at Avon Park (Avon): Beacon Communities plans to redevelop a vacant office park at 20 Security Dr. into a mixed-income housing community in two phases totaling 100 units, including units set aside for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Waltersville Commons (Bridgeport): The former Waltersville School will be converted into 70 apartments for households earning between 30% and 80% of area median income, including nine supportive housing units.
